EXPERTISE

Immigration and nationality law

A residence permit decides whether you may work, study or live with your family in the Netherlands. The IND applies detailed rules and short deadlines. We prepare applications that meet them and challenge decisions that do not.

How we can help

  • Residence permits for work, study, research and family reunification: applications, extensions, change of purpose and withdrawal

  • Highly skilled migrants, EU Blue Card holders and intra-corporate transferees, including what happens when the job ends

  • Self-employed persons and start-ups, including the RVO assessment

  • Naturalisation and the option procedure, and loss or withdrawal of Dutch nationality

  • Objections and appeals against IND decisions

Good to know

Starting a business in the Netherlands from outside the EU? Plan the company and the residence permit together. For a self-employed permit, the IND asks the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) to score your experience, your business plan and its added value for the Netherlands; a start-up permit requires a signed agreement with an experienced facilitator in the Netherlands. US and Japanese nationals have their own treaty route. We prepare the company and the application as one file.

Key deadlines

Objection or appeal

Four weeks (article 69 Aliens Act 2000)

Some asylum decisions

One or two weeks

Nationality decisions

Six weeks (article 6:7 Awb)

QUESTION

My job as a highly skilled migrant ends. Must I leave?

Not immediately. In most cases you have a search period to find a new employer who is a recognised sponsor. What applies to you depends on your permit and on how the employment ends; we check it before you sign anything.

Tell us what happened. We take it from there.
